Public Policy Observer Agus Pambagio welcomed President Jokowi's signing of the regulation of electric motor vehicles. Because the presidential regulation (Perpres) can accelerate the development of electric motor vehicles in the country.

At the same time, Agus considered that the legal framework for pure electric vehicles still needs to be studied and that the government must formulate it independently.

Agus explained that the government should not be influenced by those interested in this industry.

He said that if some parties do not agree with the regulation of electric vehicles, the fact is that the regulations must always be published.

"Yes, the country does not need to be outdone by Gaikindo," said Agus, who met in Sarinah, central Jakarta last week.

According to Agus, if a collision were to be resolved, the industry should be aligned with vehicle production in accordance with existing regulations, including offering incentives to the manufacturing sector.

"We can accommodate, but not all, we have already provided accommodation with bonuses," said Agus.

As is known, the government already has two draft measures to change the map of the national automobile industry through presidential regulation and the luxury goods sales tax (PPnBM).

Gaikindo participated in the formulation of the PPnBM in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), which regulated the regulation of the emission-based vehicle tax. This rule was formerly known as a low-carbon vehicle (LCEV).

It should be understood that PPnBM content is very "user-friendly", especially for some Gaikindo members who want hybrid vehicles to dominate the Indonesian market. The content of Perpres aims to be a legal umbrella for pure electric vehicles without the aid of conventional engines.

According to Agus, who was also part of Perpres' formulation team on electric vehicles, Gaikindo should have supported Perpres.

For him, performances have been lightened by incentives if producers play in the market of pure electric vehicles. The tax benefits in Perpres are known to be import duties on imports of battery-powered vehicles, PMPNB incentives, incentives for exemptions or tax cuts and several other tax incentive schemes.

Some time ago it was rumored that President Jokowi would travel to South Korea to discuss Hyundai's investment in Indonesia. Hyundai is one of the very serious manufacturers in the development of green vehicles in Indonesia.
